A high risk of rip currents is forecast for the beaches from Cape Hatteras south to Ocracoke, including Frisco and Hatteras. A combination of on-shore winds and a southeast swell will increase the threat of deadly rip currents, especially around low tide at 5:30pm. Powerful thunderstorms dropped heavy rain and even hail up to nearly an inch over southern Currituck County and the northern Dare beaches Tuesday, that after a day of temperatures in the upper 90s for some locations. No record highs were set in the region yesterday, and temperatures are expected to be near normal levels today. The man who died on the beach at Duck Friday has been identified as a vacationer from Pennsylvania. 63-year old Kenneth Lang was found face down in the ocean, the same day that more than 70 people were pulled from the water by lifeguards in Duck and Southern Shores after being caught in powerful rip currents. Nags Head Police arrested five men in a pair of separate drug busts last week that netted 53-grams of cocaine. Rolando Rubio of Nags Head, and Martin Romero and Juan Gallegos of Elizabeth City were arrested Friday night. Saturday, Valenzuena Guillermo and Marco Terrazas of Manns Harbor were caught. Each man faces at least one drug count, with more pending.
